Jacqueline Canterbury, a native of Monterey, considers her home-footprint to be from the southern tip of Monterey County to the headlands of Marin. She has lived away from this home five times in her lifetime, and always returns. She says, “I consider ‘place’ to be so important to how I see myself and know this one to be mine.” The central theme of her work revolves around salvaged clothing, and addresses social and political norms, and question’s conventional function. Her work is mostly remade from historic textiles and wearable sources, derived from flea markets, thrift stores and antique shops.
