Dine Out With Friends at Il Vecchio. The creator of il vecchio, Carl Alasko, lived in Rome between 1963 and 1974. During those eleven years Carl absorbed Italian culture and a taste for great Italian food. Before opening Il Vecchio, Carl’s Italian daughter, Saroja, convinced the owner of Maccheroni to send his head chef to Pacific Grove to teach the staff at Il Vecchio how to achieve the precise timing and blending of ingredients that’s at the core of traditional recipes. The original head chef, Stefen Shatto, returned to the restaurant along with his mother, Kelly, to acquire Il Vecchio in June 2024. Their acquisition of Il Vecchio was not just a business endeavor but a heartfelt continuation of the restaurant’s legacy.

Following the tradition of a Roman neighborhood trattoria, Il Vecchio is pleased to offer delicious, fresh made Italian food. Traditional recipes with fresh ingredients. Everything is made on the premises from scratch. They have the best wines at truly affordable prices and many gluten free options. They are open for dinner from 5:00 pm – 8:30 pm. They will donate a portion of their dinner proceeds to the Friends. This is a delicious way to support the library.
